VAV MinistriesGifts of every kindGift valuation planner
Understand the next step.
Explore a preliminary contribution amount and the records that may be needed before deciding whether to offer a gift.
Guided estimate
A planning range—not a promised write-off.
The donor, an independent appraiser where required and the donor’s advisor determine valuation and tax treatment. VAV may acknowledge what it actually receives, but it does not inflate, guarantee or certify a donor’s claimed value.
This private planning tool does not collect, store or submit the figures entered.

Valuation approach: Donor-supported fair market value
Cost, asking price and sentimental value are not automatically fair market value.
Likely documentation conversation
- Keep transfer and fair-market-value support
Important boundaries
The right evidence governs.
For noncash gifts over $500, Form 8283 may apply. For many gifts exceeding $5,000, a qualified appraisal and Section B are generally required, with category-specific exceptions. Vehicle gifts and real estate have additional rules.
The value of donated time or services is generally not deductible. Certain unreimbursed expenses may qualify under narrow rules, so service and expense records remain separate.
No obligation
Start only when you are ready.
A preliminary estimate does not offer or transfer a gift. If you wish to discuss a possible noncash gift, begin with a general conversation and do not send titles, account details or confidential documents.
